Bright Blasting Barnstaple

Expert Sand & Vapour Blasting in North Devon

At Bright Blasting Barnstaple, we specialise in preparing and restoring small to medium-sized items using professional dry blasting, vapour blasting and precision surface cleaning techniques. Whether you’re restoring a classic motorcycle, refurbishing hardware, removing corrosion, or preparing a part for paint or coating, our focus is on quality, care and the right method for the material. Every job starts with a simple assessment, either from photographs or in person, so we can determine the most suitable blasting media, pressure level and process. No two materials react the same way, so choosing the correct technique ensures a clean, even finish without risk of damage. Our workshop is based in Barnstaple and built for projects where detail matters, not rushed, industrial-scale production.

Our Blasting Services

Dry blasting is ideal for tougher coatings, rust removal and surface preparation on harder materials. This method uses compressed air and media like aluminium oxide, grit or glass bead to effectively strip back surfaces.

Suitable for:

  • Heavily rusted metal components
  • Old paint and coating removal
  • Cast iron items
  • Tool and machinery restoration
  • Preparation prior to primer or powder coating

The result is a clean, keyed surface ready for repainting or refinishing — especially effective for items with years of corrosion or stubborn residue.

Vapour blasting creates a smoother, more controlled finish and is ideal for parts where appearance matters. This method combines water and abrasive media to reduce wear and produce a satin, uniform finish.

Best used for:

  • Motorcycle engine casings
  • Aluminium components
  • Delicate restoration items
  • Polished or formed metal parts
  • Items requiring a clean, bright finish

The result is a bright, refined finish without scratching or surface pitting.

Some items require cleaning before blasting to remove oil, fuel residue or dirt. Proper preparation ensures the blasting stage is consistent and prevents contamination.

Common cleaning items:

  • Motorcycle and automotive parts
  • Workshop tools and fittings
  • Fabricated metal parts
  • Outdoor weathered items

Additional cleaning charges apply only where necessary — and will always be discussed beforehand.

Once blasting is complete, metal surfaces are exposed and can oxidise if left untreated. We offer an optional grey etch primer to protect your parts until final finishing.

Recommended when:

  • You plan to store the part before painting
  • You want corrosion protection immediately
  • The part will be handled by a painter or shop afterwards
